Course Description:

This intensive 12 Module course meets the requirements of STCW A-VI/5 and is based on IMO Model Course 3.19 - Ship Security Officer as per A/12.2 of the ISPS Code and Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003 (MTOFSA) and Regulations.

This online course has been designed to give delegates a full understanding of the ISPS Code, how to implement the Code and related legislation to fulfil the documentation requirements and maintain an effective security system for their operation.

 

Course Overview:

This Competency Based course will provide Ship Security Officers with the necessary training, and is relevant for personnel involved in the development and maintenance of security awareness onboard ships.

 

Course Standard:

Meets the requirements of STCW-78, as amended, Regulation VI/5 and STCW Code Section A-VI/5 and Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003 (MTOFSA) and Regulations.

 

Course Objectives:

Successful delegates should be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities as a Ship Security Officer, as defined in section A/12.2 of the ISPS Code, which include, but are not limited to:

  1. An in depth knowledge of the ISPS Code and relevant regulations in SOLAS;
  2. Be able to discuss the implications of the ISPS Code on your Company’s operations; and
  3. Be able to adopt a practical approach to maritime security.

 

Course Entry Requirements:

There are no specific pre-requisites for SSO training but those undergoing training should have sufficient knowledge and practical experience of merchant vessel operations to enable them to achieve the objectives of the training and be able, if required, to undertake the duties and responsibilities of an SSO on completion of the training.

 

Who Should Attend:

This course is open to seafarers that have been, are likely to be, or want to be designated as Ship Security Officer.

Online.

 

Course Duration:

One of the many benefits of online training that you can complete the training in your own time and at you convenience. This SSO course will require approximately 40 hours commitment and must be completed with 30 days of commencement.

Module 9: Emergency Preparedness, Drills and  Exercises;

Module 10: Security Administration;

Module 11: Security Training; and

Module 12: Country Specific Requirements.

 

Course Assessment:

This online course is assessed by means of online multiple choice questions after each Module and an online examination at the end of the course.
